What are the Three Principles (3Ps)?
The Three Principles are those of Mind, Consciousness and Thought. You’ll see the 3Ps also referred to as an Inside Out understanding, as ‘an easier life through a simple understanding of the mind’ (https://3pconference.org/) or even as a new psychological paradigm. The 3Ps help us to understand that our feelings arise from our thoughts. And our thoughts can change in a heartbeat.
And that work means teaching me a whole load of complicated techniques and processes?
The great thing about the 3Ps is that it isn’t about that at all. The thing is, we all – every one of us, so you are not an exception – have innate wellbeing. Yes, as we go through life we get battered and damaged and come to think that we can never get back to the joy we were born with. When you find the insight that our feeling arises from our thoughts, we change. The Outside stuff is still there. Our reaction on the Inside allows us to feel better, to be happy and free of stress and anxiety.
I know what Thought is. Are you telling me I don’t really know?
What matters is your understanding of Thought in the connection of the 3Ps. Thought creates the mental images we need to interpret reality. I might be travelling on a train, relaxed and happy because I’m going on holiday. Next to me sits a commuter, stressed because all she must get to a vital meeting. Both of us are sitting on the same train, each experiencing different realities. The difference lies in how we think about that reality and how those thoughts make us feel.
So, what is Consciousness?
Consciousness brings our mental images to life and, ultimately, makes us human.
Okay … and Mind?
Mind is the formless energy and the intelligence behind life. We are all connected with Universal Thought. One Thought. We are One.
Hmm … so this is a spiritual process?
Well, remember it’s not a process. This is about reconnecting with your innate wisdom that’s always present on the Inside. Is it spiritual? That depends on your interpretation. In the end, the penny can drop and you can find your innate wisdom and that’s all you need to do. If you’re here to de-stress and you do, what else matters? In my practice of the 3Ps that was my starting point – getting the results I needed. Now I’m going more deeply spiritual with it because that’s what resonates with me. Your experience of reality, as we have seen, could be different and that’s fine.
What happens in a ‘coaching’ session?
I listen to you with full connection, grounding, and hear your words beyond the words. I’ve heard it described as listening at the soul level. I’ll ask you questions. There may be silences, long silences, As I reflect on what you’ve said or as you think about what to say next. We’ll laugh and probably experience other emotions too. You’ll gain insights into any changes you need to make. No two sessions are the same as I’m working with you deeply and intuitively.
Initially we’re about being connected, finding rapport, and finding our way into the conversation. In subsequent sessions we’ll be connected more rapidly. And then … who knows?
I’ll be recording some of my work in the near future and adding those videos to this site, along with other video and audio segments.
What won’t happen … You may have preconceived ideas about ‘coaching’. Goal setting, accountability, working through to-do lists. That’s nothing to do with Transformative Coaching. There are many excellent coaches working in that way, but it’s not what I do.
I won’t be asking questions from a book of ’50 top coaching questions’ or the like.
Where did the notion of the Three Principles come from?
In the 1970’s Sydney Banks discovered that every feeling that someone has, comes from the thought he/she is having at that very moment. Every time a thought changes, the feelings changes accordingly, with no exception. Human beings are “experience-creating machines” that use the gift of Thought to create mental images, the gift of Consciousness to bring those images to life into a full-blown experience, and the gift of connection of Mind to the life force.
