About Ian

Freelance writer specialising in personal development. When you need an insightful blog, article, newsletter, video script – or other copy that will engage your audience – I can write it.

I bring a unique blend of experience and skills to your project and to my writing.

I have trained and practised extensively in NLP (neuro-linguistic programming). My accreditations in this field are listed below.

I have practical experience of coaching clients to achieve their desired personal development outcomes; of therapeutic NLP and hypnotherapy.

I’m passionate about personal development beyond NLP; for example, the rise of mindfulness and meditation, the Three Principles; and wellbeing in corporate settings.

My range runs across the spectrum from spiritual/‘new age’ personal development to business organisations and education.

I have written articles for NLP Life Training (see my portfolio) and for the BBC. I use aspects of the NLP linguistic models in my writing to further reach and engage the audience. Over time I’ll be writing more about how I do this.

I am a qualified lecturer and tutor with many years experience of teaching personal development, specifically in the context of leadership and management. Beyond ‘traditional’ face-to-face teaching I have written (and presented) many video scripts for use in blended learning.

I have two degrees from the Open University and so know how to research a topic and a project. I’m as comfortable shaping your existing material I am researching from scratch. Studying part-time with the OU, as well as working in a (very) full-time role in further education, demonstrates my ability to keep several projects moving forward together to meet a deadline.

I love writing, and naturally I love reading too. When I’m not working on projects for clients, I’m reading novels, ‘smart thinking’ books, or writing fiction. Storytelling may seem the opposite of writing to a brief; yet a story needs to have recognisable structure, genre, and consistency (within the rules of its universe) to engage readers. Except when the writing is intended to be experimental …

I made the decision to focus exclusively on writing because this is where I find the most fulfilment. It’s also a great fit with my desired lifestyle.

When you want to discuss how I can contribute to your project, do contact me.
